DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)
The K-3 Literacy Screener consists of a set of measures for assessing reading skills. This universal screening identifies students who may need extra support in reading and monitors their progress over time. Teachers use this data to set and monitor literacy goals, as well as provide instructional support.
It assesses:
- Phonemic Awareness – Recognizing and manipulating sounds in spoken words.
- Alphabetic Principle & Phonics – Letter-sound relationships and decoding skills.
- Fluency – Reading accuracy, speed, and expression.
- Vocabulary – Understanding word meanings.
- Comprehension – Understanding and making meaning from text.
This screener is given three times a year: Beginning of Year (BOY), Middle of Year (MOY), and End of Year (EOY).
The LEAP (Louisiana Educational Assessment Program) tests measure students' mastery of Louisiana state academic standards in core subjects. These tests are given to students in grades 3-12 and assess:
- English Language Arts (ELA) – Reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
- Mathematics – Problem-solving, algebra, geometry, and number operations.
- Science – Life, physical, and earth sciences, including scientific reasoning.
- Social Studies – History, geography, civics, and economics.
LEAP tests are designed to evaluate student progress, ensure they are meeting grade-level expectations, and determine readiness for the next grade or course. In high school, LEAP 2025 tests are required for graduation in specific subjects.
Assessments in grades 3–8 include:
LEAP 2025
High school students take assessments to determine if they are ready for college and/or careers, as well as to secure postsecondary credit and access. Louisiana will administer LEAP 2025 high school assessments, which report student results using five performance levels. There are seven subject tests from four subject areas: English, mathematics, science, and social studies. The assessments can be compared to LEAP 2025 assessments in grades three through eight, providing a consistent measure of student performance and growth from grades three through eleven.
High School Assessments include:
- LEAP 2025: English I & II, Algebra I, Geometry, Civics/U.S. History, Biology
- American College Test (ACT)
